Since 2022, Sunpro has relied on the H-2B visa program to address ongoing labor shortages. Starting in 2022, Sunpro brought in 45 H-2B workers, 42 in 2023, 31 in 2024 and 13 in 2025.
Why the H-2B Visa Program?
As Sunpro has grown, the increased need for labor, particularly quickly scaling labor during peak building season, became a business-critical challenge. The H-2B visa program, which allows U.S. companies to hire seasonal workers from other countries, was the most compelling solution. Sunpro’s Human Resources Director, Leonardo Osorio, with experience working in the federal government, led the way.
How Sunpro Brings Workers Aboard
Sunpro works directly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in El Salvador for recruitment. This involves in-person or video conference interviews and referrals from current employees. To help new hires settle in, Sunpro provides resources for community integration and supports those who want to take English language classes.
In the program’s first year, Sunpro’s leadership partnered with the consulate in Monterrey, Mexico, to simplify the visa process, making future recruiting efforts easier.
What We have Seen and What is Next
Sunpro managers value the H-2B workers, describing them as hardworking, reliable and eager to learn. For Sunpro, the program has evolved into more than a staffing solution, becoming a vehicle of opportunity for eager workers from developing countries to make more money abroad and improve their life locally.
Going forward, and based on operational needs, Sunpro will continue using the H-2B program as one dependable resource to meet labor needs and support our communities.
