Shawn Jackson, a Sunpro Sales Representative, never imagined that he would end up working in the building materials industry. However, his love for the job and the intellectually demanding nature of the work have kept him in the industry for over a decade.
“I moved up to Salt Lake City around 1997, and my plan was to get a job and go to college full time,” Shawn said. “However, it just didn’t work out that way. I found a job working at a door shop, building and selling doors, and things took off from there.”
Shawn’s career took a turn for the better in 2008 when the company he was working for, Standard Builders, was acquired by Sunpro. He’s been part of the Clyde Companies family ever since.
“It’s pretty wild that I have been in this industry for so long,” Shawn said. “The main reason why I stuck it out is because of the great coworkers that I have been fortunate enough to work with over the years.”
Sunpro’s company value of “We Value People” is evident in the team they attract and retain. Shawn’s supervisor, Derek Day, recognizes his exceptional abilities as one of those team members.
“Shawn’s love for the job and ability to handle its daily challenges make him a key player,” Derek said. “Not only is he great with customers and has incredible product knowledge, but his coworkers love to work with him. We’re lucky to have him as part of our team.”
With a comprehensive list of job responsibilities, Shawn is focused on helping customers “Keep Building” throughout the day.
“The job itself is mentally demanding and a lot of fun,” Shawn said. “There are so many variables to deal with on a day-to-day basis that there’s never a dull moment. I’m busy all the time, but it’s a good thing. It keeps me on my toes.”
Shawn’s experience working at Sunpro has been overwhelmingly positive, and he attributes it to the company’s culture and organization.
“There’s a lot to be said of how great of a company Sunpro is,” Shawn said. “The organization outweighs the competition in so many ways.”
Shawn’s passion for the industry and his dedication to his job have made him a valuable asset to Sunpro.
“I love working with customers to help them find the right products for their projects,” Shawn said. “It’s satisfying to see a project come together, and I feel good knowing that I played a small role in making that happen.”
As Shawn looks toward the future, he doesn’t see himself leaving the building materials industry anytime soon.
“I’m here for the long haul,” Shawn said. “I’m happy here at Sunpro and enjoy what I do. As long as I’m able to continue doing this work, I will.”
Shawn’s career at Sunpro demonstrates the importance of job satisfaction and maintaining a positive company culture. His love for the job and the intellectual demands of his position have made him a key part of Building a Better Community.
